The Shakes | 1/21/17

The Shakes put on a great show at The Middle East Upstairs in Boston. I was not expecting such a soulful voice from the singer, it was a very pleasant surprise for a music scene that is dominated by metal and hardcore bands. You could see Big Mike (singer and guitarist) put his heart into his performance and his guitar solos were absolutely dripping with emotion. For those who appreciate alternative blues bands such as The Black Keys or The White Stripes but with an extra kick, make sure to give The Shakes a listen.

Review of “Illuminate Me” by Bad Cop

Illuminate Me by Bad Cop has this retro feel with the singers vocals and the instruments behind the vocals make you want to get up and dance. The first thing you hear is a great beat and a very memorable guitar melody through out the song. The lyrics are original and unique, you’ll find yourself singing along in the chorus. You could jam out to this song  in our car without a doubt. This makes the song unique because the instruments give the song energy and the vocals give it that relaxing vibe. The vocals and instruments play on each other instead of against each other which is a very good thing. All components of this song fit well together and compliment each other.

The End Is Here : NYC Tour Review

On January 27th, I attended my first show of 2017. I got to attend “The End Is Here” tour. It was an honor to start this year off with these three amazing bands, Falling In Reverse, Issues and Motionless In White. On tour, they had the help of upcoming bands Dead Girls Academy and Dangerkids as opening acts for the three. I must say, each band gave it their all on this night. The lighting for each set was absolutely phenomenal. My friend and I bought VIP for the show, with VIP we got to meet all three main acts. Meet and greet with Falling In Reverse went pretty quick, The guys in Issues made the time to talk to each fan and greet them very kindly. But when we got to Motionless In White, they stopped meeting the fans after I guess a certain time limit, so we did not get to meet them. Did not receive any of the merchandise to come with the package as well. VIP was very messy, there were three lines for each act. I feel we should have received what we paid for to seem fair. No big deal to us though. First time ever hearing Dead Girls Academy and Dangerkids, I was in shock with their stage presence. Very energetic. Issues, Motionless In White and Falling In Reverse had fantastic stage presence as well. Each band had a theme for their set, which was pretty amazing. Overall, the whole show was killer. Bravo to each band and the members for giving it their all. Such a fun night, I suggest catching this tour when it hits a city near you.

Review: Attic by The Fem Doms

I’ve never wanted to go out and shout out a band’s name more than I have with this one. On December 31st of 2016, rock band The Fem Doms released Attic, a three song EP that has enough meat in it to make you feel like you’re listening to a full album. I found myself head banging to each and every tune, and feeling the energy in the vocals.
Each song is unique to it’s own. The first song, “Monolith” is very eerie feeling from the get go, beginning with just the drums. The second track “Dysania” is very much conveys the feeling of the titles meaning, finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning. The guitar and drums just flow together on this one. The concluding track “Dropped” has a slightly happier tone to me than the other tracks, and I found it extremely catchy. I found myself humming this as I got some errands done. The guitar work on this one also blew me away . Overall, I’ll definitely be looking forward to the day they come out to California. You can buy Attic on their bandcamp or stream it for free on their soundcloud.

Review : America by The New Tarot

My first thought of America by The New Tarot was that the melody of the instruments are very calming and peaceful. This song makes you want to close your eyes and just listen. The harmonies are pretty spot on and make the song have more layers which I really liked. The lyrics are very truthful and real but I felt that they could of gone more in depth with the lyrics. This is something I usually wouldn’t listen to but this song caught my ear with it’s calming instruments as well as the harmonies going on through out the song.

Yellowcard – The Final World Tour

There was not a dry eye in sight as Yellowcard played for one of the last times ever. The night of November 22nd was definitely one for the books for many Orlando concert goers. The band put on an amazing set including many of the good oldies and many of the new songs off their final album.  The energy of both the band and the crowd were absolutely incredible. You could tell everyone was there to make the most out of their last time seeing Yellowcard perform. The best moment was when the whole crowd sang Ocean Avenue at the top of their lungs for one final time. This show is definitely one I will remember for a long time. Farewell Yellowcard, the fans will miss you.

Unbreakable Tour 2016 – New York City

On October 5, 2016 I attended the Unbreakable Tour. I was excited to photograph a tour with a genre of music out of my comfort zone.  The openers of the tour, Counterparts were already on stage when I arrived. It was during the third song, as all my fellow photographers friends know it’s the last song we can photograph. I’m glad I was able to get a few photos of Counterparts. The next band up to the stage was one of my favorite heavier acts We Came As Romans. Their performance is always jam-packed with energy. In my opinion the perfect act to go on right before the headlining act of this tour. We would then finish of the night with national touring act, and headliners of the show, Parkway Drive. Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia Parkway Drive has quite the fan base in the United States. When they took the stage I could feel the instruments in my chest, the crowd was so into the set you could feel the room shake. All in all I enjoyed photographing a  line-up out of my comfort zone.

The Broken Few – EP Release Party

I had the opportunity to photograph The Broken Few’s EP release party on October 8, 2016 at the News Cafe in Pawtucket Rhode Island. Being that it was taking place at quite a small bar, i didn’t expect too much of a crowd. Let me tell you, they proved me wrong. As soon as the band took the stage and started singing, or rather screaming, everyone started jumping around. They picked up the singer and had him crowd surf around the tiny bar. The energy at the show was intense, and everyone started moshing to the music causing me to run to safety to protect my camera! All in all it was one of my most interesting local shows i’ve had a chance to photograph, so do yourself a favor, if you like moshing and bands with high energy go check out The Broken Few.

Review : Yellowcard | The Final World Tour

On November 9th, 2016 many people gathered in New York City at PlayStation Theater for a very special show. This would be Yellowcard’s last New York City show ever. Yellowcard became a band in 1997, they are from Jacksonville Florida and have been based in Los Angeles California since 2000. In early summer 2016 they announced their last album titled Yellowcard and The Final World Tour. Being a band for almost 20 years they have made 5 EP’s and 13 albums. Many of which were and still are very successful. They have changed so many lives over the years. For this final tour they have taken two bands on tour with them they are Dry Jacket an Indie Rock band from Marlton, New Jersey and Like Torches an Alternative Rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. The night started with Dry Jacket’s performance which was great. While being mellow they also had that rock sense which made them have a unique sound that was perfect for this tour. The next band to perform was Like Torches, they were slightly heavier throwing in some scream vocals here and there which got the crowd even more pumped than they already were. Finally Yellowcard performed starting with old songs progressing into new ones. Going back and forth between old songs and new ones was very refreshing. The performance was one of their best (in my opinion). Yellowcard played a total of 24 songs including an encore. It was a bittersweet feeling once the show was over. If the tour didn’t stop in your city just yet I highly suggest seeing them one last time.

Review : The Made To Destroy Tour | 10/8/16

I never pass up the opportunity to see Pierce the Veil perform and The Made to Destroy tour was no exception. Pierce the Veil put on an amazing show as always featuring tracks from their older albums and from their latest release Misadventures. The show was complete with opening performances from I Prevail and Neck Deep. Both bands put on amazing sets as well. All in all the show was one for the books. Pierce the Veil is most definitely one of my favorite bands to see perform. Their energy at every show is incredible. They know how to get the crowd excited which always makes for a good show environment. If you have yet to see them perform I highly recommend it next time they come around.
