Juwan Rohan’s “How The Day Ends” Review

juwanrowan

Juwan Rohan is a recording artist from Berkley California, who’s goal is to influence, encourage, and reach out to lost souls through his music. He strives to use music as a platform to inspire, motivate, and influence youth and unite the community together.

The track “How The Day Ends“ starts off with Juwan speaking over a beat, to which his flow mixes with smoothly.  It’s soulful, you just may start moving your head, and swaying your body to the beat. After listening to this song, you’ll feel a bit more connected to his struggles.  A listener can relate to how his tough times stress him out, and even with support you will still have off days. The message I receive from this song is, no matter what, focus on your long-term goals and future successes. It is healthy for everyone to have a creative outlet to pour sadness, stress and happiness into. For me, it’s writing photography, and sometimes painting. For Juwan it’s clear that his creative outlet is writing and music.

You can listen to his music on SpotifyItunes, and Soundcloud ; as well as follow him on Twitter, and Instagram.

Yizzy Presents at Pop Brixton

Yizzy Presents at Pop Brixton, South London, was a chance for many currently lesser-known rappers to have some time in the spotlight. Yizzy himself did not come out until after 10pm, giving over two hours of stage time to a medley of different London rappers, including British-Latino rappers like Guala, whose music, in English and Spanish, I’ve never heard before. South American Brits in the audience particularly enjoyed hearing Spanish rap.

Ecuadorian, Colombian and Black British rappers performed solo and with friends, setting a good mood for the audience. I personally enjoyed the camaraderie and support that rappers showed each other. British rap is so diverse, in ways that I previously didn’t know about, so I walked away from the show having learned something. Other performers included L1, RingRoze, Helms (an acquaintance from an old job whose appearance on stage shocked and delighted me) and Koder, who looks a lot like Andre 3000. Koder was received extremely well. He was extremely energetic, bouncing around constantly (making it very difficult for me to photograph him!) and interacting with the audience a lot. His song, ‘Richer’, is particularly good and was performed alongside his backing vocalist. His friends in the audience kept shouting out “UNDENIABLE!” which became an infectious chant.

When Yizzy eventually came out, everyone was already on a high, so his set was full of energy. His latest song, ‘Back It’, features Dizzee Rascal and has a distinctive sound that is very different from most UK rap songs. The beat features heavy guitar and dubstep sounds that honestly haven’t been heard in popular UK music for about ten years. Yizzy can rap FAST and kept up the pace throughout his whole performance. He recreated his Fire in the Booth freestyle, which floored me. Just stellar performances all round creating a perceptible sense of excitement about the UK rap scene. Grime, drill, rap and hip hop are all different but at Yizzy Presents we got a little taste of all of these genres from a wide range of rappers. Made me feel proud to be British!

Interview w/ upcoming artist Saus

What inspired your start, and at what age did your interest in music start ?

I picked up a pen at the age of 9, I had watched family members pursue what I didn’t take seriously until age 16. I fell in-love with Hip-Hop early on but older generations kept my knowledge on music diverse.

For someone who has never listened to you before, what song do you suggest they listen to first ?

If I had to recommend one of my songs to a new listener I’d chose ” Vibe” ft L.A.F & BroGod prod deem0beats. The song brings positive energy and vies with its catchy chorus, it makes for a good first listen.

Turn the tables, if you’re attending a concert/show as the concert goer, what is the best show/ tour you’ve seen to date?

The best shown I’ve seen so far was J.Cole Forest Hills Drive Tour. He is an incredible artist and performer and sets the bar high for his peers.

State/country you would like to play but haven’t yet?

A European tour is a small yet major goal of mine.

Bucket list venue to perform at ?

Being from New York, Madison Square Garden is one venue I’d love to perform at, and sell out.

Do you have any upcoming performances?

I do not have any upcoming shows but I am always willing and looking for new opportunities.

How did you and Dan Moody meet ?

I moved onto his block in Rosebank, Staten Island NY in 2007, We were neighbors for seven years before we linked up to collaborate. The rest is history..

who/what influences you most?

The people I make music with are incredibly talented and we influence each other by keeping it real with new ideas and criticism.

How do the words at the end of the ” worth it ” music video relate to your own life?

” The choices we make in life come back full circle.”, the message I am trying to spread with both the quote and the video was that you might not realize it but even the smallest decision can alter your future. I believe that not only myself, but most people can say they feel the same.

Lastly, anything to say to your fans?

Id like to tell my fans to, shoot any shot given, to manifest positive thoughts and never let anyone hold you back.
