Free Throw ft Chris Farren, Youth Fountain & Macseal | Fall 2019 Tour

I’ve heard a lot about Free Throw over the past couple of years through the albums they’ve released and tours they’ve been apart of, but really became a fan of them this year when they released their third album, “What’s Past Is Prologue.” The band began a headlining tour in support of this record, with support from Chris Farren, Youth Fountain and Macseal, which I attended the Denver date of.

Macseal kicked off the night. The emo/alternative quartet played songs that spanned their discography as a band so far, from playing “Cats” and “5:45 AM (Not Fun)” from their 2015 self-titled debut EP, to “Harry” and “Next To You” from their 2017 release “Yeah, No, I Know,” and “Golden Hour” and “Sure, Thing Shelly” (which was a great choice to open the set with) from their most recent EP to date, 2018’s “Map It Out.” Their set also included music from their upcoming debut LP, “Super Enthusiast,” – the lead single “Always Hazy,” and another new song from the record. Macseal put on a very fun and energetic set and started off the show very well.

Speaking of energy, that’s easily a word I’d use to describe the set from the next band, Youth Fountain. The Canadian pop punk band played several songs from their recently released debut album, “Letters To Our Former Selves,” an album that has also quickly become one of my favorites of this year so far. I love the band’s more emotional and slightly aggressive take on pop punk, and that all shows even more through their incredible live show. From the set opener (Rose Coloured Glass) to the song that not only closed out their set, but also closes out their album (“Blooms”) and the many songs in between (“Letters To Our Former Selves,” “Complacent,” “Worried,” “Moody,” “Deadlocked,” and “Grinding Teeth”), the crowd was singing and shouting along with them, bringing as much energy and passion as the band did throughout the entire set.

Next up was Chris Farren, who’s been releasing music under his own name for a few years now. He opened with the very catchy “Search 4 Me,” one of two singles that he’s released so far from his upcoming record, “Born Hot.” (The other single of the two is “Surrender,” which he played later on in the set). He also played a lot of previous material, including the singles “Where U Are” and “The Way That I Love U Has Changed,” and three songs from his sophomore album “Can’t Die” – “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Human Being,” and “Say You Want Me.”

Closing out the night was Free Throw. Throughout their hour long set, they played eleven songs, also spanning from throughout their entire discography, including a handful of tracks from “What’s Past Is Prologue” (“The Corner’s Dilemma,” “Tail Whip, Struggle,” “You Don’t Say That” and the title track), as well as some older favorites, such as “Better Have Burn Heal” and “Randy, I Am The Liquor” from their sophomore album “Bear Your Mind,” and “Tongue Tied,” “Two Beers In,” and “Good Job, Champ,” from their debut LP, “These Days Are Gone.” With each song they played, the band brought so much energy and so much emotion, putting on a great live show overall.

Ice Nine Kills – The Silver Scream | album review

ink-tss

Ice Nine Kills is a band that has flown under many people’s radar for over a decade now. A band known by name, but never receiving recognition they really deserves. They’ve always been doing things their own way, putting  themselves on the map with their last release, Every Trick In The Book, which was a huge hit in the scene of heavy music.

October 5th, 2018, marked a new era for the band. The latest album from the band, The Silver Scream, is something unlike many people have heard. Every song is based off a popular horror film, everything from Halloween to The Crow. Ice Nine Kills didn’t hold anything back on this album.

The first two singles, The American Nightmare (A Nightmare On Elm Street) and Thank God It’s Friday (Friday The 13th) let fans know that they weren’t going soft anytime soon. A catchy chorus mixed with heavier verses, and a breakdown everyone could love, people knew to catch Ice Nine Kills on Warped Tour 2018, and to keep an eye on the band until October.

I’ve listened to the entire album, and now I can’t stop myself from listening. Lighter tracks, like Love Bites (An American Werewolf In London) and A Grave Mistake (The Crow) offer incredible songwriting and gorgeous singing. On the opposite end of that spectrum, songs like Stabbing In The Dark (Halloween), Merry Axe-Mas (Silent Night, Deadly Night) and Rocking The Boat (Jaws) hit hard with fun guitar riffs, energetic drumming, and some unclean vocals we’ve rarely seen from Charnas. The references to classic lines from the movies give every song its own little flare of nostalgia.  Many songs come completely out of left field, It Is The End (It) sticking out to me the most. Creepy voice acting, leading into chaotic and heavy verses, the song features ska punk band, Less Than Jake, offering some backing tracks to elevate the heavy guitars to a new level. The song makes you wanna move in any way you can.

The album shows tons of growth from the small metal band. Their ability to create and not take themselves 100% serious is obvious. The use voice acting, other genres, wordplay, and fun movie references, The Silver Scream gives you the creeps in the best way. Nostalgia and love for horror films makes my love for this album so much more personal. Ice Nine Kills has come a very long way, I have a feeling they can only go up from here.

My experience at the Panic! At The Disco concert was amazing. This was my first huge concert besides warped tour and it was spectacular. The visuals they put on the screens were really great because they gave a story to the whole concert. Before the concert started, they put teasers of Brendon walking to the stage and a countdown on the screens. Brendon’s voice of course was like Jesus to my ears and the rest of the guys played amazingly as well. I loved how they played songs from each album they have ever released. The variety of songs was probably my favorite factor of this concert. Confetti was also shot out at the crowd and I was one of those people to pick up some pieces of course. The visuals were amazing and everywhere you looked new surprises came about.

The End Is Here : NYC Tour Review

teih-tour

On January 27th, I attended my first show of 2017. I got to attend “The End Is Here” tour. It was an honor to start this year off with these three amazing bands, Falling In Reverse, Issues and Motionless In White. On tour, they had the help of upcoming bands Dead Girls Academy and Dangerkids as opening acts for the three. I must say, each band gave it their all on this night. The lighting for each set was absolutely phenomenal. My friend and I bought VIP for the show, with VIP we got to meet all three main acts. Meet and greet with Falling In Reverse went pretty quick, The guys in Issues made the time to talk to each fan and greet them very kindly. But when we got to Motionless In White, they stopped meeting the fans after I guess a certain time limit, so we did not get to meet them. Did not receive any of the merchandise to come with the package as well. VIP was very messy, there were three lines for each act. I feel we should have received what we paid for to seem fair. No big deal to us though. First time ever hearing Dead Girls Academy and Dangerkids, I was in shock with their stage presence. Very energetic. Issues, Motionless In White and Falling In Reverse had fantastic stage presence as well. Each band had a theme for their set, which was pretty amazing. Overall, the whole show was killer. Bravo to each band and the members for giving it their all. Such a fun night, I suggest catching this tour when it hits a city near you.

Unbreakable Tour 2016 – New York City

On October 5, 2016 I attended the Unbreakable Tour. I was excited to photograph a tour with a genre of music out of my comfort zone.  The openers of the tour, Counterparts were already on stage when I arrived. It was during the third song, as all my fellow photographers friends know it’s the last song we can photograph. I’m glad I was able to get a few photos of Counterparts. The next band up to the stage was one of my favorite heavier acts We Came As Romans. Their performance is always jam-packed with energy. In my opinion the perfect act to go on right before the headlining act of this tour. We would then finish of the night with national touring act, and headliners of the show, Parkway Drive. Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia Parkway Drive has quite the fan base in the United States. When they took the stage I could feel the instruments in my chest, the crowd was so into the set you could feel the room shake. All in all I enjoyed photographing a  line-up out of my comfort zone.

Review : The Made To Destroy Tour | 10/8/16

Photos by : Cristine Trimarco at the NYC date of tour.

I never pass up the opportunity to see Pierce the Veil perform and The Made to Destroy tour was no exception. Pierce the Veil put on an amazing show as always featuring tracks from their older albums and from their latest release Misadventures. The show was complete with opening performances from I Prevail and Neck Deep. Both bands put on amazing sets as well. All in all the show was one for the books. Pierce the Veil is most definitely one of my favorite bands to see perform. Their energy at every show is incredible. They know how to get the crowd excited which always makes for a good show environment. If you have yet to see them perform I highly recommend it next time they come around.

Misadventures – Pierce The Veil

PTV-M.jpg

The highly anticipated album, Misadventures by Pierce the Veil was released on Friday May 13th. That is almost four years since the bands last release. For those of you who don’t know, Pierce the Veil is a hardcore band from San Diego. The band dubbed themselves as the genre of Mexicore being that all the members are Mexican. The band consists of Vic Fuentes (vocals, guitar), Tony Perry (lead guitar), Jaime Preciado (bass), and Mike Fuentes (drums). Although the new album is different from the band’s previous releases the album have a very similar sound to their previous work. The album shows their growth as a band while still keeping the sound that makes this band so unique. The album consists of 11 tracks. The first track to be released was “The Divine Zero”. This track was released over the summer prior to the bands run on the Vans Warped Tour. After the release of that track it took until May for the rest of the album to be released. Many fans were getting angry and thought they were never going to get a new album. Now that the album is finally released all the fans seem to finally be satisfied. Personally, the wait was worth it because it gave the band the time to release a very well thought out album. The lyrics are all very meaningful and hit hard on the emotions of all the members. The track that stands out most is the track “Circles” which is said to be written about the attacks that happened in Paris. Lyrically, it is one of the strongest tracks on the album. Being someone who is quite familiar with all the discography of the band I can see that this album is the strongest and shows the bands growth over the years while still keeping their style. Many bands tend to conform to the standards of music as they get bigger but Pierce the Veil didn’t try to “sell out” with their sound. All in all my favorite track off the album is “Floral & Fading” because of its uniqueness in style. My least favorite track off the album is “Texas is Forever”. To me this track goes a little all over the place with the tune and guitar riffs. Despite that I still enjoy the song. You can really hear all the hard work that went into making this album and each song has its own uniqueness that makes it stand out. Some albums have an extreme sense of unity that make all the tracks sound too similar. Misadventures has a sense of unity without that sameness between the tracks. I think overall I would give this album a 4.5/5. Good job guys on another amazing release.

Monumentour | July 18, 2014

Hey y’all!

Only one word comes to mind when I think about Monumentour: incredible. I had the privilege of seeing New Politics, Paramore and Fall Out Boy on July 18th at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, Maryland. The three bands have been playing arenas and will continue to play all summer. A tour with Paramore and Fall Out Boy has been long awaited in the music world and the groups did not disappoint.

New Politics, a band originally from Denmark, has been playing what they consider to be punk and alternative rock music since 2009. Although the three piece group knows what it feels like to headline shows and play festivals, lead singer David Boyd told the crowd they still feel so privileged to be opening for Fall Out Boy and Paramore. Fun fact: Pete Wentz recently signed New Politics to his record label Decaydance, along with Lolo.

The group opened with “Give Me Hope”, followed by”Berlin”, “Fall Into These Arms”, “Just Like Me” and “Tonight You’re Perfect”. Boyd sang “Fall Into These Arms” while standing on the crowd, and the transition between “Fall Into These Arms’ and “Just Like Me” featured his insane break-dancing and signature headstand.  About halfway through “Tonight You’re Perfect”, the band began playing a cover of Panic! At the Disco’s Miss Jackson, featuring Lolo. At this point, a majority of the crowd was on its feet, full of energy and ready to sing along with the band’s hit single “Harlem”. Their sent went off without a hitch, featuring many jokes, one regarding the fact that the band’s current drummer, Louis Vecchio, is the only American in the band. New Politics closed their set with a song called “Yeah Yeah Yeah” off their first album.

Paramore’s set started with “Still Into You”, which is one of their biggest songs, hitting #24 on Billboard’s top 100. Out of ten songs that have been on Billboard’s top 100, only one song has hit number one.  The band is currently comprised of Haley Williams, Jeremy Davis and Taylor York, and the touring addition of Aaron Gillespie, Justin York and Jon Howard. The band started making music in 2004, when they put out their first album All We Know is Falling through Atlantic records. This tour has been recognized as a comeback tour because the band has been through so much, including the loss of two lead members in 2011. Haley’s neon outfit and strong stage persona alongside York’s high energy guitar riffs carried the band through “That’s What You Get,” “For a Pessimist, I’m Pretty Optimistic,” “Ignorance,” and a slower paced, less optimistic “Decode.” The band slowed it down to play “The Only Exception” complete with cell phone lights shining all around the pavillion and “Last Hope,” to speed things up again with “Brick by Boring Brick,” “Misery Business” followed by the very drum heavy “Let the Flames Begin” and “Part ll.” Paramore closed their set with “Proof” and only #1 Billboard hit, “Ain’t it Fun.” Hopefully Jeremy Davis’s hernia feels much better soon!

Fall Out boy went on stage at 9:30, and even though it was late, no one was tired quite yet. This is the second time I have seen Fall Out Boy since they came off of their 3 year hiatus in February of 2013. They began their set with the 1st song off their latest album Save Rock and Roll called “The Phoenix,” followed by some older songs, “The Take Over, the Break’s Over,” “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me” and “This Ain’t a Scene, it’s an Arms Race.” Bassist Pete Wentz’s stage banter led us into Alone Together, Death Valley and the certified triple platinum song “Sugar, We’re Going Down.”

The band went on to play “Miss Missing You,” a fan favorite “Young Volcanoes” and an old but still extremely popular “Dance, Dance.” Then they played “Just One Yesterday” and my favorite song off of their first album Take This to Your Grave, “Grand Theft Autumn,” continuing on with a cover of “We Are the Champions.”   The show was equipped with pyrotechnics and Wentz and guitarist Joe Trohman played a part of the set in the middle of the arena, between the lawn seats and the pavilion seats. The show must go on and it of course did, with a killer rendition of “Save Rock and Roll,” followed by the oh-so-sassy “I Don’t Care” and closing their set with “My Songs Know What You Did in The Dark.” The band came back on for their encore to play their high energy “Thanks fr th Mmrs” and the same song they always close with, which is an absolute classic, “Saturday”! My personal favorite part of the show was when Pete was throwing beach balls at Andy for a good couple of minutes while he was trying to drum. They are such a great live band and I hope that some of you have had the chance to see them live!

The Vamps take on New York City

Wednesday night, the upcoming British band The Vamps did their first ever headlining show at Gramercy Theater in New York City. The band is made up of Bradley Simpson, James McVey, Tristan Evans, and Connor Ball. Over 500 people waited outside in the cold and rain to be able to see the boys at their first ever concert in the United States.

AJR Brothers opened for The Vamps. They got the crowd moving with some of their singles, like “I’m Ready” and “Livin’ on Love”.

The Vamps came on singing “Wildheart” their new single just released here in the United States. They also sang a few new unreleased songs, and even did a cover of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. The show was full of energy, and Mr. Evans may have even kissed Mr. Simpson on his cheek during one of the songs.

The concert overall was amazing, and I had such an amazing time. It’s crazy to see a band that you’ve been watching on YouTube since the beginning, live for the first time. I’m incredibly proud of these boys and can’t wait to see where they go from here.

Were any of you at the show? If not, make sure to check out the band’s single “Wildheart” on iTunes and check them out on twitter @TheVampsBand
