Cannibal Corpse 2023 North American Tour ft Mayhem, Gorguts, & Blood Incantation | Photos + Review

On a very rainy Friday night the Cannibal Corpse 2023 North American Tour came to destroy the sold out Worcester Palladium. Supporting this tour was the one and only Mayhem, Gorguts, & Blood Incantation. I have been to the Worcester Palladium at least a hundred times but I have never seen this iconic venue as electric as it was. I rushed in to just make it down the four packed levels into the photo pit to start my coverage.

Being a little overwhelmed having to hurry in after waiting in traffic, running through the rain to collect my credentials at the box office, getting down to the photo pit, and immediately starting to photograph half way through song one, I finally had a second to turn around to take in what was hands down one of the most religious concert experience I have ever attended.

Not knowing the two opening acts until this bill was announced, Blood Incantation was up first, a death metal band out of Denver, CO started in 2011. With dark blue and green lights, with an occasional white light shining, & endless fog, this band was a little hard to capture, but the job got done. Lead singer & guitarist, Paul Riedl had the softest most humble speaking voice to hype up crowd, then went into this deep death metal scream. You could barely see drummer Isaac Faulk whaling on the kit that made the whole room shake. The guitars were flawlessly melodic as Paul was joined by guitarist Mossis Faulk, and of course, the bassist Jeff Barret matched this vibe. As an opening band, sometimes it’s hard to get the crowd going and ready to rage but not on this night. The mosh pit was massive and going hard and people were flying through the air endlessly.

Gorguts was next. A seasoned Canadian death metal band out of Quebec formed in 1989. Lead singer & guitarist, Luc Lemay is the only original member left, but with how this band was flowing together you wouldn’t have known that. This group isn’t just death metal, they are technical death metal. Having fast blast beats, aggressive build ups, and guttural low screams, it’s honestly quite catchy to keep the head banging. Each band definitely had its collection of fans there but everyone was so electric that it almost was hard to tell.

I stated at the beginning of this “The one and only Mayhem” because that is truly what this band is. Formed in 1984 in Langhus, this Norwegian black metal band was one to put this genre on the map. The fog machines went off every 30 seconds, making the band members silhouettes during some of their performance. Front man Attila Csihar, known as Void, was dressed in a long tattered up robe with his entire face painted up moving across the stage like Voldermont did in Harry Potter. Memorizing the audience. Actually the entire band did that. Morten Bergeton Iversen, known as Teloch, one of the guitarists, was sporting his face being painted up as well, with a gothic style outfit, while everyone was wearing black shirts and jeans. The other members of the band did not sport the look those two did which was interesting to me but it didn’t matter due to what these musicians brought to the Palladium. I felt like I was on a Norwegian journey. The bass, played by Jorn Stubberud, known as Necrobutcher. The drums, ripped on by Jan Axel Blomberg, known as Hellhammer. Seamlessly flowing riffs being played by Charles Edward Hedger, known as Ghul alongside Teloch, and those vocals shook the house in a way I’ve never experienced. Mayhem brought an intensified element to this bill. I highly suggest catching them live at any point in time.

Waiting for the headliner, as the stage hands cleared the stage, the venue was still going hard with its wild energy. The merch booth still had a massive line half way down the venue steps, fans were still moshing & crowd surfing while waiting for the band to go on, I have yet to see that live at any show! Cannibal Corpse, starting out in 1988, originally out of Buffalo, NY, was on. If you’re a death metal fan, I’m going to say most likely you’re a Cannibal Corpse fan. George Fisher, aka Corpsegrinder, wore his very own “Respect The Neck” shirt which I thought was great. If you know anything about him, you know he is known for his unmatched headbanging, windmill whipping massive neck! The screams that came out of that man’s mouth may actually be talking demons, it was a little imidateding being that close but it was absolutely amazing. This seasoned band was nothing short of perfect, which was to no surprise. Playing a variety of fan favorites, the wild energy the Palladium held in its walls all night elevated to 11 for the entire 14 song setlist. It seriously never stopped. Alex Webster, the original bass player & founding member, guitarist Rob Barrett & Erik Rutan (who is fairly new to the band), and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, all in sync. The solos and riffs were dirty ripping through the hammering of the drums, in the best way we all want our riffs to be. They weren’t flashy in the way they looked or how the stage looked. The fog machine was barely pressed and the lights weren’t anything fancy whatsoever, but none of that mattered to anyone. I think at this point in time people from quite young ages to older folks in that crowd were heart warmed to be watching and respecting legends. Being able to witness all these things I have heard about Cannibal Corpse was one to cross off the bucket list. I am truly grateful I was able to attend this tour passing through. It was one for the books.

Knotfest Roadshow 2022

Slipknot announced taking their notorious show out on the road again in 2022 to bring complete chaos to the US with the legendary Cypress Hill and a punk, rap, metal three piece who has taken the nu-metal scene by storm, Ho99o9. This show was ran a little differently than what photographers are usually used to. We always are being rushed to the correct place of the venue to go over the rules of covering the show and such but on that night we had to rush take an on site covid test, meet up with the rest of the photographers once cleared, go over the rules and appropriate bands to photograph, which was only Slipknot at the DCU Center in Providence, RI. It was interesting to say the least but none of us had an issue with this given a heads up in the email on how this show was being ran. It was just a little different than the usual heart beating anxiety entering the venue. Once that was cleared, it was time to enjoy the rest of Ho99o9 set! The DCU Center holds up to 15,000 people and this arena was starting to fill in, from the floor to the top seats! The guys in the band were going off on the stage as I walked down the steps onto the sticky concrete floor. Ho99o9 was originally a duo, theOGM and Eaddy, who started in New Jersey and moved to L.A, gaining drummer Brandon Pertzborn. Ho99o9 is leetspeak for horror if you were wondering by the way. Their live show consists of lots of head banging, jumping around energy, and you could see the crowd was warming up for what was next to come. theOGM, Eaddy, and Brandon definitely bring a mix of punk, rap, and metal! Ho99o9 fits the Slipknot Roadshow bill for sure!

Setlist: Master of Pain. The World, The Flesh, The Devil. Mega City Nine. Protect My Bitch PT 2. Firefly Family. Bite My Face.

As the openers set comes to a close, people started to move to the refreshment stands and merch tables, while parents started rushing children to the front of the stage to be enlightened on who Cypress Hill was. I have always noticed the youth on the Slipknot Road Show shows and have always enjoyed knowing that amazing music will live on forever because of this!

DJ Muggs hit the stage first stating “There goes the neighborhood” and starts playing some mega mash up bangers such as Wu Tang, Ozzy, Run DMC, and Metallica. He would skip in and out of the mixes so the crowd could carry the rest of the lyrics and they did just that! Drummer, Eric Bobo, starts hitting his weed decorated kit and MC B-Real joins the stage. Unfortunately, Sen Dogg was absent for this one but will reconnect with the tour for future dates. The now, even more packed venue, started filling up with the sweet smell of Mary Jane as well as the stage and the area for what usually is the ‘pit’ is now a giant grooving dance party until they played “Superstar” that is. Then the area did break out into a small pit. B-Real was hyping up the crowd all set, asking if they are awake and “feeling insane” as they go into another top hit, “Insane in the membrane”. Cypress Hill has been around since 1988, becoming legends to the music scene. With multiple top hits, awards, and all around respect, it was an honor to see them live and on the roadshow!

Setlist: When the Shit Goes Down. Real Estate. Hand on the Pump. Sound of the Police. Roll It Up, Light It Up, Smoke It Up. Throw Your Set in the Air. Illusions. I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That. How I Could Just Kill a Man. (Rock) Superstar. Insane in the Brain. Jump Around.

The almost sold out DCU Center was packed and the fans in their positions were getting antsy starring at the Slipknot banner in front of the massive stage as the crew men built up the set for Slipknot. The playlist for everyone to get amped up was a solid mix of rock music but we all knew once ‘ACDC’s “For Those About To Rock” played it was time for them to take the stage. Slipknot has not played in Rhode Island for over 20 years and Corey Taylor was stoked to be back. The stage was about 11 feet high, so trying to snap all nine members was indeed a challenge for us photographers but we were ready. The ‘ACDC’ song finally plays after waiting a little bit and then, BANG, it is on!

Playing over an hour and a half set, Corey Taylor, lead singer, mentions that his voice isn’t 100 percent but no one could tell at all. His notes were flawless and his screams were gritty as always. Jay Weinberg, one of the greatest drummers of all time, was wacking his massive kit, while Clown and Tortilla Man were smashing kettle drums, and more precision drums, that were placed about 15 feet high on two separate towers. The stage presence of Slipknot is unmatched. It seriously is a must see live show, even if you have check it out on YouTube. Alex, the bass player at one point even had a flame thrower attached to his bass! While shooting the set, the pyros did go off on the second song and I was surprised to be leaving with eyebrows, however, even moving to the back of the massive crowd, I could still feel the heat from the fire! Corey Taylor is always showing his gratitude to the loyal and even new fans. He mentioned that he could see kids mixed in with older adults and that makes them continue what they have been doing for over 23 years now. Playing hits such as, “Before I Forget”, “The Devil In I”, which always gives me chills live, and “The Heretic Anthem”, to name a few, the Slipknot Roadshow once again blew minds.

There was actually two wild mosh pits that broke out until it turned into one huge one. Fans were helping each other up in the dark chaos if they got knocked down though and even Corey was looking out for his fans as a girl got pushed down, he stopped the show to make sure she was okay and to remind us to take care of one another. “This family lives and dies together”, he said, “as long as you’re on our side, we will give you 23 more years!”

Setlist: Disasterpiece. Wait and Bleed. Sulfur. Before I Forget. The Chapeltown Rag. Dead Memories. Unsainted. The Heretic Anthem. Psychosocial. The Devil in I. Solway Firth. All Out Life. Snuff. Vermilion. Duality. Custer. Spit It Out. Encore: People=Shit. (sic). Surfacing.

The Slipknot Road Show came and went but definitely did not disappoint in the least. I’ve attended the show twice now and I can’t wait to see what they bring us in 2023!

All-In Moment’s self-titled album “All-In Moment” – Album Review

All-In Moment is a 4- piece hard rock/ metal band from Staten Island New, York. The band consists of vocalist Chris Scott, guitarist David Cohen, bassist Luke Lewis, and drummer Daniel Luczak.
Recently they released their self-titled album “All -In Moment” which you can listen to here

The album opens with “Before The Bomb Drops “, which in my opinion was a great choice due to the instrumental fast paced opening, as well as the breakdown that for sure would make anyone want to mosh the second they hear it.

Next up is “Haunt Me “, the vocals are my favorite part of this song, as well as the lyrics. I caught myself singing “haunt me in my dreams but I’ll be alright “ after listening. I enjoy how the vocals fade out, and the instruments end the song
Following Haunt Me, is “Unstoppable”, introducing some screams to this album at the perfect time. To feel unstoppable is to feel powerful. This song, with its fast-paced beat is catchy for sure.
The last song I will be reviewing, and my favorite song on the album is “From Chaos Comes Clarity” , the lyrics “ sometimes we all gotta fall, to find ourselves, from chaos comes clarity” are really important, and true with-in my own personal experiences. I feel many new listeners will related to this song, and they should give it a listen.

Song # 5 off of “All-In Moment” is called “For You.” I’m not entirely sure who write the lyrics to this song, but whoever it was loves the person they sing about. They’d do anything for the one they sing about. It’s a heart warming song off a badass album! It picks up heavily at the end as well to keep the flow of the album.

Moving into song #6 “Refuse the Call”. This is song starts off hard and if I was seeing them live, there’d be a mosh pit within the first 30 seconds which I love. The lead guitar line is driving and I love the drums in this song!

“Oblivion” takes track 7. And out of the four I have reviewed, my personal favorite. It’s a headbanger for sure. It has a great pop punk feel to it, but still keeps that hard driving sound All-in Moment has. The breakdown has these dueling guitars which is one of my favorite things a band could do!

Closing out the self titled album is “Not that Far Away.” I honestly dig his style of singing because it reminds me of 90s grunge music, and who doesn’t appreciate that. This song rips. From the heavy flow of guitars, banging drums, and a sick bass line.

All in all I’d review this album a 6 out of 10! I’ve spent 13 years in and out of studio sessions. So in my opinion, the vocals could have been mixed a little bit more post production. Really rad band! Be sure to check them out, social media listed below.
