Southerland Nights written Interview

Southerland Nights written Interview

Hey! It’s Adam and thank you to The Camera Affect for doing this interview, I really appreciate it.

I sing, play guitar, and help write songs in the band.

– At what age did you get into music, and what inspired you to do so?

I’ve been listening to music ever since I can remember and it wasn’t by choice, nursery rhymes and being forced to listen what my parents did for a long time. I got exposed to rap and trance music in elementary school and that’s pretty much what I listened to for a long time. I had a friend who exposed me to Linkin Park, Korn, Sum 41, Slipknot, and blink-182 in middle school. My mind exploded I was like “woah these songs really speak to me, so many songs about mean girls who don’t want to date nice guys, I can totally relate to this!”. I saw Mick Thompson (from Slipknot) with a BC Rich Warlock, and I simply thought that was the coolest looking guitar on earth, this was before I ever actually played one. I met Andy and he got me started on playing guitar and then we just went from there.

– What is the meaning behind the band name?

Andy and I used to play in bands with some friends on a street called Southerland Way, the name is an homage to all the crazy nights we had partying, jamming, and hanging out.

– What has the feedback for your song ” Here I am’ been like ?

Honestly, so far it’s been nothing but positive, which has been a total shock for me. Our first song was very dark and then this song is so different in every way, so I wasn’t sure how people would respond. I’m very happy to how it’s been so far.

– Who would be included on your dream tour?

I would love to tour with AFI, Marilyn Manson, Muse, Enter Shikari, Linkin Park, 30 Seconds to Mars, and even if we weren’t included in that lineup, I would kill to see that show.

– Who are your biggest musical influences?

There are so many, it changes all the time, it depends on my mood I guess, different artists influence me in different times of my life. Overall I’d say The Cure, Goo Goo Dolls, and Muse.

– What is your best advice for an artist just starting out?

Haha, don’t take advice from an artist just starting out, seriously we’re in the same boat here. I guess if it means anything coming from me, just work really hard and be prepared to sacrifice everything for your dreams, I sure have.

– If you could change one thing about the world what would it be and why?

Oh that’s a tough one, if I had to pick one… world hunger, and I don’t mean that in a cliché way or anything I just find it unsettling that people die everyday simply from not having enough to eat. I really want to do something about it when I have the resources to help.

– Can you tell us a little about your writing process, song inspiration etc

I wish I had a process, haha it’s very organic. Things kind of manifest themselves over time. I’ll start with a lyric, chord, riff, or anything really and the rest follows in time. Every song has a different story and takes us on a different path to complete it.

– What can we expect this coming year from Southerland Nights?

Well, in October we have our debut EP coming out on the 18th, not to mention we’ll be playing our first show in Houston on the 25th, and then we go on tour next year starting in January!

– Lastly, shout out to your fans. ( Links to how they can all contact you)
